In the middle of the darkest night of moral and physical suffering of those tortured throughout the world, the tiny flame of hope remains, though flickering, as embers under ashes, it stays lit in the heart of humanity.
Therefore Lord,
We thank You for the courage shown by so many prisoners which allows them to keep a hold on their human dignity.
May they be light for free people, so often discouraged with little cause.
We thank you for those who give their support to those deprived of liberty, at the risk of losing their own freedom.
May they be light for ourselves who so little dare to say what we think.
We thank you for all the organisations at work in the world so that human beings will no longer be humiliated.
May they be light drawing to themselves all those who wish to work for humanity.
We thank you for the unending patience of those who write to torturers in protest, and to the victims to sustain them.
May they be light to awaken the conscience of those who cause suffering and to warm the heart of those who suffer.
We thank You for the doors that open, in particular… (update)
May the light of Your sun be granted to all people locked up in prisons.
We thank you for the grace you bestow on those who suffer. May your grace, Lord, illuminate the world and make the darknesses disappear, so that everything on this earth may shine and so that all people may love one another in your love and live in hope.
Amen
