Mr. Mohamed Ahmed, known as Jabha, an activist for the Front for the Restoration of Unity and Democracy (FRUD) should not be in prison. The Indictment Chamber in Djibouti annulled the entire procedure that had been started against him on the 6th of October 2016 and ordered his release. However more than five months after the abandon of all charges against him, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed is still in prison albeit totally illegally.
Mr. Mohamed Ahmed was arbitrarily arrested on May 1st 2010. One month later he was transferred in complete illegality to the central prison of Djibouti which is called Gabode although no charge was held against him. The beginning of his detention was very difficult: he was tortured on several occasions (sleep deprivation, subjected to mock executions and repeated beatings). After this he was the object of much more ill treatment. On September 15, 2012 he was beaten and threatened with death by the Chief Police Sergeant in the presence of the director of Gabode Prison, an abuse which was repeated again at the end of November 2012. He was placed in solitary confinement on numerous occasions and in particular at the end of December 2012. For over four years he has been deprived of all contact with his family and friends who formerly came to see him and brought him medicine. What can you do?
